Eat Your Meat Now
Meat eaters won’t get it any better than it is right now: Cheap plentiful meat from all sources and available continuously at your local grocery store. In addition, more and more people around the world want to copy this “western” diet because it apparently is a symbol of progress or good nutrition. Meat production is expected to double by the year 2050.
Unfortunately, the day is coming when this will all come to an end. What we are doing with factory farming is totally unsustainable. No people will not finally realize that eating meat is not good for your health, no people will not finally realize that we are being totally inhumane to animals, no people will not be necessarily be poisoned (and die) on such a large scale that people will be scared to eat meat. (although,I fully expect this to happen any day). No it will be because the land will be so exhausted that it can no longer sustain the current levels of production. It will because the agricultural impact of animal farming on global warming has finally become too obvious to ignore. Right now we are losing millions of acres of land because of overgrazing of animals throughout the world. Some of this is being replaced by acreage created through butchering the Amazon forest and other forested areas. This creation of new grazing land will result in compounding environmental impacts as a result of the loss of these forests. Continued overgrazing especially in marginal areas will also cause desertification, which once done, is almost impossible to reverse.
Unfortunately, governments are too afraid to act so as not to offend corporations who support (with money) their political agendas. People are fed false information by these self same corporations so as to confuse the people about just about anything that impacts the corporate balance sheet. It is up to the people to change with their eating habits. People vote three times a day when they eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. Are you going to vote for a sustainable future? It starts with you, and it starts right now.
